Meet n Greet in Melbourne

This is nothing against Kezz's blog. I have my opinion and I chose to write my own blog instead of commenting on hers.

My suggestion for a meet and greet in melbourne is,

You set a date that gives time for anyone else in the state to come, not just for the members in the city.

This gives members that are too far away time to either save and/or organise a trip. I know from previous trips to the city after food and accomodation it is not cheap. This includes members from interstate as well.

Organising a meet and greet in a pub is a bad idea, what about a picnic lunch at the Botanical Gardens, a quiet place to meet with only FF members present. I am sure alot more members would show with out the stress of meeting in a bar.

i have been talking about an official meet and greet with other members, and we had come up with the idea about it being at the gardens. If you want privacy to talk a nice walk in the park would be nice. We even went as far as talking about a small entry fee so that we might have it lightly catered for...but that is open for more suggestions.

I think given some time and planning an official meet and greet would be absolutely awesome.

So give me your opinions please...

I'd love to come but I think a well organized meet and greet would be much better...
At least in the Botanical Gardens it's an open hemisphere and you don't have to shout at each other to get your message across like when your in a pub.
So I'm all for it - I think it's a good idea, I nice shall in a park sounds lovely to me...

the only thing a pub offers over a garden meeting venue, is "dutch courage", i have found people are more open on the net than in real life, and being in a pub with alcohol gives them that courage as well..... I know there are quiet a few genuine people on here but there are still some that are more vocal, when not face to face. You will find genuine people would love a garden meet and greet!!!

I like the idea of having more time to organise flights, accommodation etc for those that don't live so close.... not everyone lives in the eastern states.

Like both ideas for venues, the pub would be good if it was just ff persons in that area and the park has its merits for being able to wander off if the need arose!!

Take out the word official, and then I am in.......... LOL
Maybe a private function room rather then a park. A park is very open, and a lot of ppl are here with discretion being a bit thing, so keep in mind members choice to not be in too public a place!!!!!
Also with Melbourne's weather being as wonderful and unpredictable as it is, you might want an undercover kind of option, not to mention dark corners........opps sorry that is just me.
Also you can't take alcohol into state parks such as the B/gardens, unless you have a permit. there are a lot of things to consider with large gatherings in public places such as parks, where as licensed venues cover all that stuff, with everyone's drinking or non drinking taste available.
Of course no one is ever going to please everyone, or pick a date suitable to all. But I think that any one willing or having the time to try and make it happen should be commended for it.
So to both Pags and Kezza, good job and good luck pulling it off.

I did think about the alcohol thing, and there is a spot at the park that is really private that can be booked. As I said, this is more of a number finding blog, and Im sure its not that hard to organise permits for functions lol

Pub or park, I'm easy...
So can I just ask is the 20th March still on? or not...
Just wanted to know as to those who wanted to go can start looking at flights and accomodation etc.

although a private function would also be a good idea...

Kezza is organising the one on the 20th, ask her for the details, the one I am organising is for a few months.

I would go for a pub, atleast you can get a drink if you don't get lucky :)
..plus discretion could be a big factor with the open park...
although i work right across...so i could join in ..hmm:)

I would imagine it would be easier to explain being seen in a park with people than in a bar at night...
"yes you busted me, I was at the day's of our lives get together"
The private function room is a good idea worth looking into.

I think both Ideas have their merits and both Ideas can work for different reasons... so if you wonna go to the pub go or if you wonna go to the park do go OR if you wonna try both that is good too. The main thing here is about having fun and I am sure everyone agrees with that!!!
