Tips please

20 May, 12 - 6 Comments.

I have given myslef the goal to give up smoking by the end of the year. So, I'm just looking to see if there are any other reformed smokers on here that might be able to provide some tips on giving up.

Also, I kinda figure I need to find something else to do so as to replace one habit with another. So any suggestions in that regard would be welcome.

Dude, as others have stated: will power.

I did smoke all my love Ciggies and hummmm other happy tobacco like stuff :)

Last year I went on Champax, gave up with out any cravings and have never looked back.

Speak with your doctor and don't listen to what others say about stop smoking medication, try it yourself and judge for your own.

    Good luck with it dude

I gave up both times cold turkey but everyone is right... you really have to want to give up. I gave up the second time becos of health issues also.

My best friend found the patches worked for her. She went by what the packet said and failed about 3 times. Then she decided that she would reduce the patches when she was ready and was successful.

My mum found that hypnotherapy worked for her. She said the minute she got into the car after the first treatment she could not stand the smell in the car.

So the question still remains do you really want to give up or just think you should??? If you really do want to you will find what works for you if you just think you should you will prolly fail. You should wait until you are ready and have nothing big on in your life becos stress is a big cause for failure also.

Good luck... I have not had a cigarette for 10 years on 27th May... lol

Ok, so I quit for around 10 years (started again recently.. stupid me) and after trying to quit for all the right reasons, ie. kids, health, wife, cost etc.. I found there was only ONE thing that actually worked.

I had to quit because -I- wanted it.. purely selfish completely unashamed.. it only worked because I didn't want to pick one up.. so I started recognising the habits I had that triggered the habit to have one.. and I stopped doing them. I stopped going outside for breaks, distracted myself from being bored (a big trigger) and I stopped smoking in my car, house.. everything.. and it worked.. for me. Everyone is different.. but I hope this helps.

And yes, I will be using the same method to quit again.. I'll let you know how I go.

I gave up, I can't remember when but still the power of the ciggie is there when I have a drink and I have to fight it. They taste gross, make you smell and it doesn't taste nice kissing a smoker. Give them away, do it now. Willpower/cold turkey it and don't let it beat you. Why wait till the end of the year. Giving up around new years can be v v difficult i.e it doesn't work....good luck

I'm attacking the same thing, I'm doing it in steps two weeks smoking normally, two weeks smoking half of what I normally smoke and so on at the moment I'm down to 2 cigarettes per day.

I've also stopped myself smoking inside the house, car, no smoke breaks at work etc...a tip from my motivation coach is also reward yourself for the goals you set and achieve such as I did above...will power is the other ingredient needed lots of it.

    good luck

I gave up in 2003 after 2 previous attempts. I think the secret to giving up is truly wanting to kick it. The toughest part is being in situations you associate with drinking. For me that was having a beer at the pub. Fortunately smoking in pubs was banned not long after. Good luck with it.
