iDate 2011
So I'm in LA at the moment for the iDate 2011 convention. It's quite amazing how generous dating CEOs are with their time and experience. The most enlightening so far has been Liz from the Australian (yet massively global) lesbian dating site Pink Sofa. Their focus is on ethics and community. I hope that sounds familiar! Check them out.
My session yesterday has already produced some cool ideas (are you reading, tax man?).

-ooooh...if we're talking ideas...
I'd love to be able to search women's and men's profiles at the same time instead of having to do it seperately one after the other.
It would be great if the search function had an option for you to tick the kinds of profiles you would like to include in the search eg. men, women, and fm couples etc... instead of the drop down box where you can only choose one option.
For those of us who don't differentiate by gender in our preferences, it would be great to have a search option that includes all our preferences together

-Is there any way of displaying who is in chat before we log into it? It would be nice to know if the person/people you are looking to chat with are in there (and also people you're not!) :)

-also, in the search profiles thingy, you can search with the option of showing who is in chat as coming at the top of the list...
It won't show up who is in there if they have that option hidden on their profile though. -

-I think in the next FF iteration it will work both ways. If a member chooses not to reveal when they are online/in chat then they can't see who else is either. It may be controversial but seems a fair trade-off to me. I've also worked a "members currently in chat" feature into the new homepage, with appropriate privacy settings. It's something I've been wary of in the past, and could backfire and lead to less chat engagement, but we'll see how it goes.

-Hey thanks for sharing that Oods. Tell me what are the chances of getting a few improvements done to this site.
Like:
A drop down box to select a page number with searching thru your inbox or sentbox? OR a Delete button at the bottom of the page as well as the top of the page. AND Last but not least, the choice to search a profile by Starsign also. I do realise that most guys don't go in for this but women do and it would be nice to add it to the search criteria. Thanks for listening Oods!!!-

-The pink sofa is nice, but the interface is no where near as good as ff... it looks a bit like a classifieds site Ood.... hopefully ver 2.0 will kit it even better than the current...

-looooove the code of ethics on that site... It's short, clear and to the point...hard to misinterpret anything in there, and is a good addition to the terms and conditions (which are also really well written) :-)
