Spammers and fraudsters are the scourge of all dating and social networking sites. The cons are usually pretty similar; "hello - I'm a very pretty but lonely girl/guy. I don't care what you look like. Add me to your msn/yahoo so we can chat."

Eventually they'll tell you that they're stuck in another country, and need money to come and visit you to start a new life together. Or maybe they have a sick relative needing an urgent but expensive operation.

We'll soon have very tight counter-measures in place to fight spam (right now it's a pretty manual process).

Here's our first scammer (deleted now):

My name is morine, i saw your profile, today and I became intrested in you,I will also like to know you more, and if you can send an email to my email address,i will give you my pictures here is my email address ([email protected]) I believe we can move ahead from here! to know each other, am Awaiting for your mail to my email address above your baby girl morine.

One of the strongest signals of a fake is that they immediately ask to get off the website and on to yahoo orr msn instead. Be sure to exchange several messages with anyone on any dating site before giving alternate contact details.

FlingFinder allows unlimited free replies back and forth once initial contact has been made, so there's no need to rush.
